Do you know that December is the most popular month to get engaged? But saying ‘I do’ in the winter months isn’t quite as common. The unpredictable snow storms, wedding gowns that are not weather proof, holiday and wedding spending, YIKES! But, admit it, there’s an enchanting feeling that creeps up as the cold air hits. Maybe it’s snuggling next to the fireplace that makes the season more romantic? Or is it the delicious aroma of holiday food filling our homes that encourages family gatherings? If you take a closer look, having a winter wedding can be a great way to light two candles with one flame.
Deck the Halls
The set-up crew can sit out on your winter event. Mini white lights, extravagant floral arrangements, candelabras, luxurious fabrics, and elegant crystals will already fill the banquet rooms of many venues in honor of the holidays! A fireplace in the venue is also a great holiday stamp. Hang stockings that are embroidered Mr. & Mrs. on them to celebrate your special day!
Baby, it’s Cold Outside
There are so many beautiful winter wedding gown styles. More sparkle or even faux fur can help bring your dress up a holiday notch! Here’s one of my favorites! And what about a wedding dress cloak? They are so perfect for the season!
Holiday music can be played by the quartet; there are some beautiful pieces that would sound lovely interpreted through strings. And, of course, the DJ can also spread holiday love through his selection! No one can resist the sounds of the holidays! Besides, everyone can sing along!
Home for the Holidays
Does your whole entire family get together for the holidays? Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews? Well, cut their traveling expenses by having your wedding while they’re already around! They’ll be appreciative and of course will have extra cash to get you guys a fab wedding gift!
My Favorite Things
Take advantage of foods and desserts that come around this time of year. Kick off your reception by serving festive cocktails like the Grinch, a Holiday Bellini, or toasty favorites like Hot Mint Chocolate and White Christmas. From a holiday fondue station to winter stuffed pork loin with sun dried cranberries and walnuts, to a decadent cheesecake as your wedding cake! Talk to your caterer about the specials that can bring the holidays to your celebration, often times this menu can save you some money too!
It’s always a good idea to be ‘green’ all year round, but, the holiday season does bring out that extra bit of giving and sharing! Instead of receiving wedding gifts, you can ask guests to bring a new toy, kids coat or blanket, so you can give it to a local children’s shelter. Or for wedding favors, instead of candy or trinkets, how about a donation in each of your guests name to a charity? You can also donate flowers from your ceremony and reception to the church or to a retirement home. (We’ll have more on this later.)
A winter wedding could certainly be a magical experience! The key is to combine efforts for your holiday and your wedding plans. With those simple, festive suggestions, you can have a winter wedding event to be remembered for all the holidays after!
